This page contains photos from our event at Sherborne Castle, Dorset with an irreverent commentary from our roving reporters. The opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the management - but they were right about the rain!

Sherborne 24-26th May 2003

by Ursula and Caileigh

Sherborne Castle Country Fair was a fundraising event for a local children's charity.* Other attendees included numerous craft stalls, a parachuting display team and speciality food vans.
We opened the event on the Saturday morning with a wake up call a visiting artillery piece, Boston, followed by a drill display including flourishing the colour and various different bangs.

For the rest of the day we inhabited the site with a sutlery, forge, armoury, various soldiers tents, apothecary, tent for soldiers repairs and the officer's quarters. Saturday night the local pub was invaded due to its large restaurant with excellent choice from the menu. [An accolade! Ed]

Sunday began with another rousing display of our superbly drilled soldiers. The rest of the day we were occupied with interacting with the public (and their pets) until finishing the closing display with a full charge for horse around drums and colours (after the parachuting team of course).
Monday was spent dismantling camp, not in the rain for once (hussar!)

* This is, in fact the, biggest charity fund raising event in the county, raising many thousands of pounds for childrens' charities and the Society of the Open Rope was very proud to be invited. Not that that would influence two sixteen year olds -Ed
