Lunch while the lead melts
During the Civil War theTamworth Castle was held by the Royalists in 1642 and was an obstruction to the Parliamantary army in their endeavours to hold Lichfield.
The castle was taken by Parliamentary forces in 1643 after a two day seige and Captain Waldyve Willington was placed in command. Cromwell did order the destruction of the building, but, it is unclear how much of it was demolished.

On this particular weekend the Society of the Open Rope provided a royalist garrison for the castle against Parliament in 1643 .

Apart from weapons training we gave a flavour of the sutlery, the apothecary, common tasks of a garrison and the dreaded surgeon. As a special treat two robinets fired every hour from the outer terrace, Vengeance and Odin.
